Can artificial intelligence write a better dating profile than yourself?

The Educated Singles Club often encourage our members to update their profiles. The more you tell about yourself the greater chance you have of getting a good match. That is a fact.

Recently an artificial technology called chatGPT has drawn a lot of attention because of its ability to produce everything from poems to complex answers to even more complex questions. Some people are excited about this new technology, while others are sceptical. We don't have an opinion about that but we will very much like you to share your point of view in the club's discussion forum here.

We decided to try out how chatGPT would write a dating profile for an educated single based on the information we give to it. See below what it came up with.

What is chatGPT?

ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer)[1] is a chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. It is built on top of OpenAI's GPT-3 family of large language models and is fine-tuned (an approach to transfer learning[2]) with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.

ChatGPT was launched as a prototype on November 30, 2022, and quickly garnered attention for its detailed responses and articulate answers across many domains of knowledge. Its uneven factual accuracy was identified as a significant drawback.[3] Following the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI was reportedly valued at $29 billion.

Our input to chatGPT:

Write me a dating profile for the dating site https://educatedsingles.com. I am a 45-year-old woman, who lives in New York. I am a finance professor at a university. I like travelling and eating out.

Its response:

"Hello there! I'm a 45-year-old woman living in the bustling city of New York. I work as a finance professor at a university and I'm passionate about my career, but I also make time for the things I love - like travelling and trying new restaurants. I'm looking for someone who is also well-educated and driven but also knows how to have fun and enjoy life's little moments. Bonus points if you're a foodie like me! I'm excited to see where this journey takes us. Let's chat and see if we have a connection."

Its response:

"Bonjour! I am a well-educated man from Paris, France, currently the CEO of a tech startup. I am a non-smoker, and I enjoy good food and wine. I am 50 years old and looking for a life partner and soulmate. I am ambitious and driven in my career, but I also value balance and making time for the people and things that matter most to me. I am looking for someone who is intelligent, kind, and ready to build a life together. Let's explore the world, try new foods and wines, and see where this journey takes us. Looking forward to getting to know you."

Our input to chatGPT:

write a dating profile: I am a 38-year-old woman with a master's degree in sociology. I have never really used my education. I have had a tough life so I need someone who is strong enough to cope with my moods. I live in London, UK. I am not very social, that is why I am here

Its response:

"Hello, I am a 38-year-old woman with a master's degree in sociology living in London, UK. Although my education has not been directly applied in my career, I believe in the value of learning and self-improvement. My past has been challenging, and I am looking for someone who is strong enough to understand and support me through my moods. I am not very social and prefer to spend my time with a select few. I am here to find someone who I can connect with on a deeper level and build a meaningful relationship. If you're ready for something real and are open to getting to know someone who's a bit more reserved, let's chat and see where things go."

Our input to chatGPT:

write a dating profile: I am a 58-year-old man from Singapore. I have a PhD in greek history, but has never worked in academia or used my education. I have been a tourist guide most of my life. I am here looking for a life partner. I have been married 3 times but never really found the right one. Is it you?

Its response:

"Hello, I am a 58-year-old man from Singapore. I hold a PhD in Greek History but have never worked in academia or used my education in a professional manner. Instead, I've spent my life as a tour guide, sharing my love for history and culture with others. I am here looking for a life partner, someone who can join me on the journey of life and make it more meaningful. I have been married 3 times but have never found the right one. I believe that everyone has a soulmate out there somewhere and I hope to find mine soon. If you're open-minded, curious about the world and looking for a companion, let's chat and see if we have a connection."
