Is it racism using the words whitelisting and blacklisting? Have your say
Right now there is a big and necessary movement to fight racism. Statues of people who have achieved their status through slavery are torn down, buildings are renamed, words are removed from dictionaries, songs are re-written, etc.
That made us think, what about some of the terms we use. Terms like whitelisting and blacklisting. We use whitelisting to indicate that we have approved and acknowledged something, while we use blacklisting to indicate something bad, namely that something is potentially dangerous and has been excluded
If we should not use whitelisting and blacklisting, which words should we use instead? Se the example below from an internet security tester tool. Is it racism or not using these terms?
